Kuantan, 3rd August – Universiti Malaysia Pahang collaborates with Malakoff Corporation Berhad to organize Switching on Green Technology Programme with the theme “Generating Knowledge for the Wellbeing and Sustainability of Our Nature”. Supported by Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTEK) and Industry Partnership & Community Relation Department (IPCRD), this programme was done to promote the Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) initiative held at this university.

‘Switching on Green Technology Programme’ is a solar based technology transfer programme in which is in line with the development of STEM and today’s green technology. A total of 30 schools in Pahang state get the opportunity to increase their understanding in technical aspect of solar technology by joining this programme.

Programme was officiated by Vice President, Special Projects and Renewable Energy (SPRE) Division, Mr. Hairol Azizi Tajuddin and accompanied by Assistant Vice-Chancellor (IPCRD), Professor Dr. Jamil Ismail.

According to Professor Dr. Jamil, STEM is very crucial in facing the global competition especially in areas of convertible energy, to create and maintain a healthy economy hence fostering innovation and excellence. It is in line with the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) aspiration in strengthening the national STEM agenda as well as strengthening UMP’s role in communitising technology through its academic expertise.

STEM@UMP initiatives programmes are derive from Strategic Leap 5: Sustainable Growth on Socioeconomic and Environment - Community Service Innovation and for this year only, 27 programmes has been planned to be executed. The launching of this initiative is hoped to give awareness on STEM and green technology to UMP citizens and thus further catalyze the future of green technology and renewable energy,” he elaborates further.

Meanwhile Hairol Azizi Tajudin said, Malakoff Corporation Berhad gives full commitment to support the initiative that is currently been implemented in Malaysia, by exposing and providing the students with knowledge in solar and renewable energy as well as green technology.

In the attendance of the event were Deputy Dean (Research) FTEK, Associate Professor Dr. Andri Kusbiantoro, representative from Policy and International Relations Division, Mdm. Roslinda Mat Musa and Haji Shiham Ghafar from Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia.
