UMPSA’s Net-Zero Commitment

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has further strengthened its position as a sustainable campus after its Pekan Campus received the 4 Diamond (Zone Category) award, while its Gambang Campus was recognised with a Diamond rating in the Low Carbon City 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) 2025. The programme, organised by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), aims to accelerate low-carbon urban transformation in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

Since 2019, UMPSA has recorded a 36.89% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, equivalent to 5,471.77 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂eq), covering key assessment elements including energy, water, waste, mobility, as well as greenery and water bodies.

The award was presented by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, in recognition of UMPSA’s significant achievements and continued commitment towards low-carbon initiatives.

Vice-Chancellor Yatimah Alias stated that the achievement reflects the collective commitment of the university community in mainstreaming sustainability and climate action across the institution. UMPSA will continue to strengthen its efforts towards becoming a low-carbon campus by 2030, in alignment with national aspirations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This recognition further reinforces UMPSA’s standing as a higher education institution committed to ESG principles and the development of a sustainable eco-campus for future generations.
