Energy and Climate Change Initiatives
UMPSA actively implements energy and climate change initiatives to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These programmes focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, carbon emission reduction, climate awareness, and sustainable resource management.
No Poverty
Energy efficiency cost savings channeled to student financial aid and community support (Kembara Lestari rural solar)
RM 2.49M+ cumulative savings (2023–2025); 5 rural households now electrified
Zero Hunger
Biodiesel production from palm waste (10,150 kWh); energy cost savings reinvested in affordable campus dining and food security programmes
10,150 kWh biodiesel/year; campus food subsidy maintained via operational savings
Good Health & Well-being
GHG reduction (11,514 tCO₂/year) improves air quality; LED lighting upgrades (99.80%) improve occupant health and wellbeing
11,514 tCO₂/year reduced; 6,700,971 kWh/year EE savings = reduced pollution exposure
Quality Education
MYSUN, WSCC, ReTHINK, CITREX 2025, and SDG 13 Integration programmes engage all campus stakeholders in sustainability education and research
14,652 campus community engaged; CITREX 2025 (15th edition); MYSUN (8 national + 3 EU universities)
Gender Equality
Inclusive participation in sustainability innovation — female researchers, engineers, and SDC staff lead energy and climate projects
Equal representation in SDC teams, MYSUN, and UMPSA GHG Reduction Programme delivery
Clean Water & Sanitation
IoT water quality monitoring system with GIS and AI analysis protects campus water bodies; water-efficient building systems integrated with BMS
Real-time monitoring of all campus water bodies; smart BMS reduces water heating energy by ~15%
