This solar installation is in line with the UMP program which is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which is a global agenda in line with the 17 goals to be achieved as introduced by the United Nations (UN) for all countries by 2030.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. “The university takes the initiative by applying skills and expertise to fields that can benefit the local community.

"UMP's involvement enables the university to play a more constructive role in realizing the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 with the theme ‘Technology for Society’.

"The role of universities is very big in helping the country achieve the SDGs for community sustainability," he said.

He said, it also includes efforts to ensure access to affordable energy that is reliable, everlasting and, sustainable for all, especially for campus residents.

“UMP also involves not only campus residents but also the local community to jointly achieve the SDGs by holding various sustainable programs as well as making the community aware of the importance of forests in efforts to address climate change issues.

"It is UMP's intention to popularize its existence as a higher education institution that not only focuses on offering mainstream academic programs but also able to serve as a social institution that catalyses the improvement of knowledge and skills literacy for other communities," he added.

He was present to witness the solar installation at the mosque carried out by volunteers from the Property Development and Management Centre (PPPH).

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of Masjid Pekan Sri Medan, Mohamed Zainal Buang said, the location of Masjid Pekan Sri Medan which is located in the middle of Sri Medan town is the focus of the public to stop by to use the facilities of this mosque.

“We are proud when this mosque was chosen in support of efforts that contribute to sustainability and energy conservation.

"Not only that, after a long wait of the waqaf and parking lot for the funeral van was in the dark, now it is brightly lit," he said, who greatly appreciated the contribution of UMP.

More importantly, the UMP Lighting Up the Community Service Project is part of the activities in conjunction with UMP's 20th Anniversary Celebration.

In conjunction with that, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie also had the opportunity to visit students' homes in the UMP Caring Pilgrimage Program to present zakat donations and UMP Foundation assistance for families.

There was joy on their faces as the visit also gave encouragement to the students as some of them were still studying online and had never entered the campus following the pandemic due to the Covid-19 outbreak that hit the country two years ago.
