THE UMP-EVOLVA COOPERATION
In June 2014, Evolva announced that it would collaborate with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for natural products from Malaysia. It was part of a development project on flavour and fragrance in Pahang.
The CoE is being facilitated by the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation under the Malaysia Bio-Economy Transformation Programme. It focuses on the development of natural compounds using Evolva's yeast fermentation production platform. The objective of the CoE is to create a new paradigm in sustainable production of Malaysia's high value natural products, starting with the sandalwood perfume.
CoE's first programme is to give emphasis on producing sandalwood perfume using yeast fermentation process. The development of various sandalwood products through this method will significantly allow Malaysia to expand the using of sandalwood worldwide, and it will complement the current traditional production approach.
