200 UMP undergraduates joined forces to plant trees

A total of 200 undergraduates from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP)'s Faculty of Manufacturing and Technology Management (FKPPT) took time off to do some good deed for Mother Nature, by planting trees at the university's Gambang Campus.  It was the first time such an activity was held, which was organised in conjunction with the Environment Day on March 3, 2010.  Twenty mango tree saplings (Mangifera Indica Linn) were planted near the health clinic and main lecture hall at Block W.

Guests who took part in the activity included Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Director, General Datuk Dr. Johari Basri, who was also UMP's Visiting Professor, and Graduate Studies Centre Dean (PPS), Professor Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.  According to FKPPT Dean, Professor Dr. Ahmad Othman, the objective of the tree planting activity was to instill awareness among the university's denizens on the importance of protecting and caring for environment in the campus.  The current issues on global warming demanded UMP denizens to take the efforts to help reduce the rising temperature that had also been affecting the country.  Activities such as this could help create awareness on the importance of protecting nature and helping us to live a more comfortable life in the future.  At the same event, 26 poster on the environment were submitted for a contest. Datuk Dr. Johari also gave a talk on health and environment.
