Strategic collaboration of UMP, KPMKR transforms the education of Sabahan community
KOTA KINABALU, 26 January 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and UMP Advanced are expanding strategic cooperation with the Ministry of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing of Sabah (KPMKR) including other agencies and departments Sabah to assist the transformation of technology-based community, especially the B40 group, single mothers, asnaf (zakat beneficiaries) and natives of the state.
The meeting with the Minister of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing of Sabah, Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya, which was attended by the UMP Board Member cum Chairman of the Board of UMP Advanced, Dato’ Mohd Sharil Abdullah, provided more space for collaboration and explored opportunities to be utilised together with the university and Sabahan communities.
Also present were the Chief Executive Officer of UMP Advanced, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed and Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI), Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Ridzuan Darun.
According to Dato’ Mohd Sharil, this strategic collaboration is a valuable opportunity to help improve the education and skill levels of the Sabahan population.
“UMP Advanced has extensive capacity and experience in implementing training and skill programmes and has successfully assisted in societal and community transformation projects involving targeted groups.
“It has been proven through the implementation of empowerECER Mahkota Project in Pahang since 2011 as a result of collaboration with the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) and empowerNCER Project (North) that covers the entire Perak and Penang districts.
“In addition, UMP Advanced’s extensive experience in successfully implementing these two projects in the economic corridor will be used to the benefit of the people of the Land Below the Wind in a strategic partnership with KPMKR,” he said.
Meanwhile, Professor Ir. Shahelmey expressed confidence in UMP’s ability to assist the people of Sabah especially in the education aspect since UMP has expertise in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme.
This strategic collaboration manifests UMP’s commitment in line with the UMP slogan ‘Technology for Society’ and in line with the UMP Advanced motto ‘Education for All, No One Left Behind’ to ensure education for all to improve the socioeconomic standards and community wellbeing.
