Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals
Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) is committed to becoming a leader in sustainable mobility by implementing a wide range of green transportation initiatives. These efforts not only reduce traffic congestion and air pollution on campus but also contribute significantly to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Key Sustainable Transportation Initiatives at UMPSA
🚍 EV Buses and Vans
UMPSA operates electric buses and vans as cleaner alternatives to fossil fuel–powered vehicles.
- SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): Uses electricity instead of fossil fuels.
- SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Reduces air and noise pollution, enhancing urban liveability.
- SDG 13 (Climate Action): Lowers greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
- SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Cleaner air improves public health.
- SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Reduces dependency on non-renewable resources
⚡ EV Charging Stations
The installation of electric vehicle charging stations supports the adoption of EVs on campus.
- SDG 7: Provides reliable and accessible charging infrastructure.
- SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure): Promotes innovation in renewable energy and smart charging.
- SDG 11: Enables low-emission urban mobility systems.
- SDG 13: Strengthens the EV ecosystem to reduce fossil fuel reliance
🛴 E-Scooters
E-scooters are introduced as a practical option for short-distance travel on campus.
- SDG 11: Offers low-cost, low-emission mobility for short trips.
- SDG 13: Replaces short car journeys, which are typically least fuel-efficient.
- SDG 3: Encourages healthier and more active lifestyles.
- SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): Creates new opportunities in the micro-mobility sector
📢 Awareness Campaigns and EV Training
UMPSA promotes sustainable mobility through awareness campaigns, training, and international collaborations, including:
- Hands-on training in electric vehicle (EV) technology.
- Installation and maintenance of EV charging stations.
- International development programs, such as sending local TVET students for EV training in Beijing.
These programs not only raise awareness among the campus community but also produce skilled graduates in green technology
UMPSA’s comprehensive approach to sustainable mobility reflects its strong commitment to becoming a green and inclusive university. By adopting EV buses, EV charging stations, e-scooters, and awareness programs, UMPSA not only reduces its carbon footprint but also educates its community towards healthier, safer, and more sustainable lifestyles.
