CHOOSE TO WALK

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) is committed to creating a campus environment that is pedestrian-friendly, safe, and sustainable. In line with the UMPSA Strategic Plan 2021–2025 (May 2024 edition), this initiative supports the university’s sustainability agenda by reducing carbon footprint and enhancing the quality of life on campus.

Since 8 January 2024, UMPSA has introduced the UMPSA Pedestrian Policy which outlines key principles:

Appropriate Use of Pedestrian Sidewalks

Sidewalks in the campus area are primarily designated for pedestrians to walk. Therefore, the use of sidewalks for bicycling, motorcycling and parking of vehicles should be strictly limited.

Speed Limit

The speed of all motorized vehicles operating inside the campus shall be no greater than 30 km/h.

Parking Violations

Vehicles parking in any location other than authorized parking facilities will be in violation of this UMPSA Pedestrians Safety Policy. Any vehicle that impedes pedestrians’ traffic will be subjected to penalty and fines according to the current parking fine schedules and rates by UMPSA Security Department.

Vehicles Permitted on Pedestrian Sidewalks

Only Emergency Service Vehicles such as fire brigade truck, ambulance and police vehicle are permitted to use the pedestrian walks in case of an emergency. Operation of other vehicles such as bicycles and motorcycles on pedestrian walkway is prohibited at all times.

UMPSA’s pedestrian policy not only supports a safe and accessible campus but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions, promoting a healthier lifestyle, and aligning with the university’s commitment to sustainability under the Eco-Campus Initiative.

Walking on campus at UMPSA is not only a daily necessity, but also a symbol of the university’s commitment towards a safer, healthier, and more sustainable campus.
