Gifts & Sale Corner
Preloved Gifts & Sales (PGS) Corner is created at UMPSA’s Library to provide a platform to staff & students to donate and reuse clothes and other materials. This create alternative function to the material other than being disposed. The item can also be recycled.
Monitoring of Waste Management Through Website
Green Campus Management, a sub-menu on UMPSA’s website is developed to make it easy for staff to monitor and update status of waste management especially at their own department. This really help UMPSA in gathering data related to sustainable waste management. Amount of waste recycled, composted, and disposed is monitored through this system.
Guideline for Supplying and Recycling of Printer’s Toner for University Usage
UMPSA has enforced a guideline on supplying and recycling of printer’s toner for university’s usage. One company has been appointed to supply toner and collect used toner for recycling of printer’s toner. A flowchart is also distributed on how to return the toner for recycling.
Recycling Conner and Promotion Board at Department
Notice board dedicated to promoting cycling effort in department. The notice board is managed by the department itself. Recycling bin is also provided nearby the notice board.
Indoor Recycle Bin
Indoor recycle bins are provided at every department to make it easy for staffs and students to recycle. At some department, the domestic waste bin is put beside the recycle bin to get better segregation. By doing so, only recyclable material will be thrown into recycle bin.
Bottlenical Garden
Central Laboratory of UMPSA has converted used wood pallet & plastic bottle as a fountain & garden. A few vegetables are planted inside used plastic bottle. This “Bottlenical Garden” is department to support sustainability initiative by UMPSA.
Plastic Bottle Collection Centre
Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering provided collection centre for plastic bottle nearby its cafeteria. The location and size of the cage has made it easy for staffs & students to deposit their used plastic bottle. This will encourage them to recycle more plastic bottle.
Office Stationary Made of Reused Paper
Human Resources Department has allocated one corner as Go Green Corner. Creative products made of reused paper are displayed at the corner. The effort can encourage staffs to be creative in managing their paper waste.
Provision of Domestic Waste Bin, Recycle Bin and Food Waste at Cafeteria
Domestic Waste Bin, Recycle Bin and Food Waste Bin are provided at Cafeteria. The reason for the provision of this bins is to make it easy for user to segregate the waste. UMPSA tried to make it easy to staffs and students to discard all type of waste into its designated bin. It is found out that segregation at source is better than segregation at the end of the process.

New Labelling for Waste Bin to Avoid Confusion
o avoid confusion, UMPSA has come out with new labelling to be put on bin. The label clearly identify what can be & can’t be thrown in into the bin. UMPSA feel that by putting pictures instead of writing, it will be easier for the user to identify and segregate waste accordingly.
Relocation of Outdoor Recycle Bin to Strategic Location
On November 2018, Waste Management Cluster has conducted a study on location of outdoor recycle bin. The study’s main purpose was to check whether the current location of bin was suitable or not for students and staffs to dispose their recyclable material and domestic waste. From the study, the bins were relocated to strategic location to ease and increase recycling effort in UMPSA.
Recycling Day at Office/Faculty
Big Cleaning Day Program is a program to encourage all department and faculties in UMPSA to eliminates unused/old documents (more than 7 years) to allow more space for more document’s storage. This initiative is also to encourage all departments and faculties to do regular recycling activities in their respective departments. The collected waste is separated by category to be sent to the appropriate disposal center.
Pyrolyser
To Produce fuel from plastics waste. The completed mobile plastics waste to fuel module will be placed at UMPSA Pekan recycling center. About 4 kg of collected plastics waste will be chopped into <10cm sized and put into the pyrolyser. The Pyrolysis process will be done at 250 – 400 ℃ for 2 hours per cycle. tested at FTKKP laboratory, UMPSA.

Used leftover dry leaves and grass as mulching at tree collar and composted manure as a mixed soil medium for nusery.
Collecting fallen leaves to be used as a soil moisturizer and organic fertilizer. The mixed soil is used for repotting, seedling nursery work in polybags.
