ANTARCTICA DAY 2025 was successfully organised by the EcoNexus Club of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Gambang Campus, on 15 November 2025 at Chendor Beach, Pahang, as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation. The programme focused on turtle release and mangrove planting activities, which aimed to support the conservation of endangered turtle species and contribute to the restoration and protection of coastal ecosystems.
The programme was graced by Professor Dr. Mahadzir bin Ishak @ Muhammad, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Development), and Dr. Suhaidah Hussain, Director of the UMPSA Centre for Sustainability Development (SDC), who delivered the opening address. The presence of university leadership highlighted UMPSA’s strong institutional support for sustainability initiatives. The programme was conducted in collaboration with MNS @ Kasih Turtle, which provided expert guidance through an educational briefing on turtle conservation prior to the activities.
In addition to hands-on conservation efforts, the programme actively promoted green practices and environmental responsibility among participants. Attendees were encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles, supporting waste reduction and sustainable lifestyle practices. The celebration of Antarctica Day further served as a platform to raise awareness on the interconnectedness of global ecosystems, emphasising the importance of protecting fragile environments, including Antarctica, to maintain ecological balance worldwide.
Overall, the programmes successfully achieved its objectives by combining environmental conservation, education, and community engagement, while strengthening collaboration between the university and environmental organisations in advancing sustainability goals.
