UMP and FRIM signed a MoU on Dec 16, 2013.

A campus afforestation project was jointly carried out with FRIM in a move to reforest the BRIS land. Initially, Acacia trees were planted to act as soil fertilisation agent before bigger trees were planted. The afforestation has several phases involving 16,000 trees of various types. The UMP Pekan Campus is built on soil of the DLD type (Disturbed Land). Its aridity level was such that FRIM was consulted to help UMP in its efforts to reforest the campus. The size of the DLD was 5.5 acres.

Afforestration
