Forestry Research Institute Malaysia

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) is a statutory agency of the Government of Malaysia, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. UMP has collaborated with FRIM to afforest 2.2 hectares (5.5 acres) plot of Pekan Campus area with dipterocarp and non-dipterocarp forest species. In this context, nursing trees concept was adopted by planting final or target species under the nursing trees over a certain period of time. The nursing tree species will be cut down to allow the target species to grow and thrive. The list of plant species planted in UMP-FRIM site are as in Appendix 2.
