OUTREACH PROJECTS

1. IoT Based Smart Farming System

UMPSA researchers from various faculties collaborated to introduce IoT-based Smart Farming Systems in Pahang, aiming to benefit low-income families in rural areas. Through collaboration with TERAJU, 45 SMEs from the B40 group received support to bring agricultural products to local markets. The system, incorporating IoT technology, enhances water and fertilizer usage precision, aiding optimal plant growth. Over 1,000 fertigation polybags and other supplies were provided to support farmers. This technology enables efficient crop yield control and monitoring through manual or automated methods, improving farm management efficiency and crop quality. UMPSA's initiative not only introduces advanced technology but also supports productivity and sustainability in Pahang's agriculture.

This initiative spans across 33 locations in four districts, including Kuantan, Pekan, Maran, and Temerloh.

3. Community Service Workshop

Service Learning Malaysia-University for Society (SULAM) is a program that integrates curricular and co-curricular approaches to education, focusing on service to the community. It's not just about volunteering but is a purposeful learning process guided by eight principles, including alignment with student learning outcomes, course content integration, collaboration with non-profit partners, and reflection components. SULAM offers four methods: direct, indirect, advocacy, and research-based.

Initially implemented at UMPSA in 2019, SULAM underwent organizational changes before settling under the Academic and International Affairs Department in 2023. The program showed promise with successful projects conducted by the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology and the Faculty of Industrial Management. Examples include teaching MS Word skills to orphans and creating digital marketing content for a center aiding disabled individuals.

These projects not only benefited the communities but also enriched students' learning experiences through practical application, reflective writing, and facilitation roles. The impact was measured through assessments and observed improvements in participants' skills and knowledge. Overall, SULAM fosters sustainable community development, social responsibility, and collaboration between the university and its stakeholders.

Targeted commuity: PEKAYA orphanage association, orphans from Permata Al-Insyirah, Permata Camar, Rumah Anak Yatim & Fakir Miskin Baitul Husna, Rumah Anak Yatim Darussalam, Permata Kauthar, INSTAR, and Maahad Tahfiz Tanjung Lumpur.
