Waste Collection

Waste collection is done properly in Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) in which the waste is disposed by sending the waste to landfill and recycled waste is either recycled or upcycled appropriately. Total amount of waste in UMPSA is tabulated in Table 1. It clearly indicates that waste generation is reduced significantly from 122.4 Metric tonne in 2023 in UMPSA Pekan where the waste is mostly obtained from students’ residence area and faculty’s office. The 5R champaign, Ekosistem Kondusif Sektor awam (EKSA) activities and digitalization of academic activity in UMPSA significantly reduce the waste production.

In order to have better waste management in UMPSA, waste is managed and controlled via

  • Policies
  • Monitoring
  • Waste to wealth activities
  • Recycling activities

In waste, there are FOUR (4) waste policies that are implemented in UMPSA as shown in Figure 1 namely as

  • Waste management policy
  • Recycling policy
  • E-waste recycling
  • Maximizing reuse of organic solid waste policy.

The waste management policy mainly to emphasize on how waste should be manage and dispose in proper way. While Recycling policy and E-Waste recycling policy are set up to ensure that recyclable items including E-waste are collected and recycled. E-waste recycling policy is implemented due to booming of digitalization phenomena after COVID19 and increase awareness of E-waste recycling. The maximizing reuse of organic solid waste policy is to ensure that organic solid waste in UMPSA is collected and converted to valuable products and reused in UMPSA.
